We have found heaven! Cathlamet, WA!
Population: 570
2nd oldest town in Washington
$9 a night to dock
Library open Tues 2-5, Wed 6-7:30, Thur 1-4.
Coffee stand right by the marina!

It is quiet, beautiful and we can walk to everything!

We rolled into town yesterday, and set out to explore. The museum lady saw us coming at 3:52 and raced out to grab her "Open" sign and put it away, which the kids thought was hilarious. They closed at 4, but we think she had a hair appointment.

We found the Chamber of Commerce, which pointed out the library, cleverly hidden in the back of a large building. Aaron noted that there were no "free wi-fi" signs anywhere, but we have the library schedule down, and we can use the computer there for free (for up to a half hour if someone is waiting).

We spent an hour in the library reading books, then walked up to the elementary school playground, conveniently located next to the pioneer cemetery. Our favorite marker was "Wakiakum, A Friendly Indian" -- the whole county was named for him! There are probably 40 people in the whole cemetery with really neat old markers. Lots of young, early deaths 150 years ago. If the childbirth didn't get you, the river did.

There is a cutie pie grocery store, with a 35 cent pop machine, and ice outside without a lock. I guess they filmed "Snow Falling on Cedars" here. The book store was having a reader's circle, so we didn't go in. Lots of retirees here!
